AWARENESS COURSE
OVERVIEW
- This course is designed to give each delegate an insight into
the world of people with disabilities.
- Our aim is to change attitudes towards disabilities
- This course is 'hands on' and all are given the opportunity
to experience barriers experienced by people with disabilities.
- Our goal is to make the transition for the new employees and
the existing staff as stress-free as possible.
- No one is overwhelmed by irrelevant medical or technical terminology
- A workbook will be supplied for each corporate delegate.
WHO
IS REACHED?
With the implementation of the Employment Equity Act, we can all
anticipate having colleagues who have some form of disability.
The Inclusion Policy will see most learners with disabilities
attending mainstream schools. These schools still need assistance
with the adaptations for accessibility and the groups of learners
need to know how to accommodate their new friends.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
This is an Outcomes Based Seminar:
- You will learn about the causes of various disabilities.
- Changes in terminology.
- We shall lay to rest the myths and misunderstandings about
disabilities.
- You will learn about the correct way to assist a person with
a disability.
- You will encounter practical experiences and demonstrations.
- You will be given the opportunity to ask questions about disabilities
and be given honest and factual answers.
COURSE
DURATION
Each course is tailored to suit the needs of the individual organisation.
In order to get the full benefit from this course, it is recommended
that each corporate delegate attend a one-hour follow-up session.
At this time each will be given the opportunity to discuss their
newly-learned skills and any problems they may have experienced.
PRE-WORK
We do not ask for any preparation for the seminars, except to
attend with an open mind.
Each delegate must have an idea of his/her own personal outcome,
which will relate to disability and the seminar.

the PADI Co-ordinator, Sandy Heyman.
